HELEN PEEL, CLIN. PSY.D., R. Psych. – practicing in our Nelson office

Dr. Peel completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The University of East London, United Kingdom. During her training rotations she helped adults to overcome a variety of challenges including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder. She then specialized in family therapy and child psychology, assisting children and their families to cope with issues such as sexual and physical abuse, marital conflict, physical illness, and behavioural problems. She also developed expertise in psycho-educational assessment.

Dr. Peel completed her undergraduate degree in Applied Psychology at the University of Wales. After completing her degree she worked on the inpatient child and adolescent unit at the internationally renowned Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London. There she specialized in supporting young people struggling with chronic eating disorders and medically unexplained physical symptoms. Dr. Peel also worked at the Royal Hospital for Neurodisability where she provided rehabilitation services to adults recovering from traumatic brain injuries and stroke.

Dr. Peel has expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focussed Brief Therapy, Systemic Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Gottman Marital Therapy and Parenting Skills Training. Following her doctoral degree, Dr. Peel continued her specialization in child, family, couples and parenting work as part of an interdisciplinary consultation team in Kensington & Chelsea. Dr. Peel also developed her own private practice in south London where she worked primarily with adults. In Dr. Peel’s practice at Summit Psychology Group, she works with people of all ages while maintaining a special interest in working with adolescents, adults and providing services in family and couples therapy.
